The Wall Live From Berlin
An Anniversary Memory

It's only been 8 years since Roger Waters gathered up a team of artists to perform the most thrilling event in history, at the Berlin Wall. I remember watching that wall come down on television, and I had tears in my eyes. Just this year, a friend of mine went to a concert, where people all over the world gathered together to hear music. My friend was accompanied by a Russian woman, who she became friends with over the Internet. They met another fan, who was from East Germany. The joking banter they shared regarding their native countries was loose yet laced with memories that once were contained behind that wall. I was inspired by my friend's description of their conversation, based on oppression and freedom. I was immediately reminded of Waters' efforts to send chills down the spines of every person that was in the audience in Germany that Saturday night, July 21, 1990. And when I told others about my thought, those who were too young to remember this historical event, I was shocked that it wasn't a part of their memories too.So that's why I'm writing this. One, I want to remind younger people of this history. And two, I want to recommend for those who have yet to see the video that was released for The Memorial Fund For Disaster Relief, to go out and get it from your local video store. Or buy the CD set, the performance is as amazing as the original music of The Wall by Pink Floyd. Now I'm not referring to the movie, The Wall. This live version, The Wall Live From Berlin, is a play performed on a huge wall. The set was enormous and breath-taking, as was the entire event. Featured in this team of artists, that helped Waters create this spectacular live concert are: Bryan Adams, The Band, Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Paul Carrack, Thomas Dolby, James Galway, Jerry Hall, The Hooters, Cyndi Lauper, Ute Lemper (who sang with Waters on "Thin Ice"), Joni Mitchell, Paddy Moloney, Van Morrison, Sinead O'Connor, The Scorpions, Tim Curry, and Marianne Faithfull. There are more artists and bands too. Every time I watch this concert, I'm spell bound. So I just thought I'd pass the word around to those who don't know of this event and concert. Whether you were in Germany watching it live, or sitting in front of your television, it was truly a memorable experience.
