Anthrax
The Threat is Real (Ignition Records)

By: Alex Steininger

With their ninth full release to date, eleventh release overall, Anthrax has jumped ship and found a new home on Ignition Records. Still playing metal, as they always have, on their latest album they feature special guests from Pantera.

I didn't like it when the 80's did the metal thing, and I don't like it in the 90's. Although, I will admit this CD is a lot harder than most of the 'metal' that came out of the eighties. Very heavy and angry, such tracks as "Crush," "Piss N Vinegar," and "Cupajoe" show the band at their fastest and loudest, while "Killing Box" features Pantera's vocalist, Phil Anselmo, giving it a very hard edge.

"Harms Way" helps show the soft, if possible, side of the band. A minute and a half intro to the song, it begins slow and eventually builds its way back into a powerhouse metal track. Also featuring another Pantera member, guitarist Dimebag Darrell, "Inside Out" and "Born Again Idiot" have a 'Pantera' edge to them, as the guitar is the driving force behind every song on this album.

If you're a metal fan this album will drive you mad and you'll love it. But if you're into some good rock 'n' roll, don't try this. It's loud, obnoxious, and irritating. Especially when you're searching for some good hooks or melody, because you won't find them on this album. I'll give this CD a D.
