Exhumed
Gore Metal (Relapse Records)

By: Jeb Branin

This is one of those bands that I hate to admit that I love. Their whole 'gore' thing is just so ridiculous. It isn't shocking, it isn't scary, and it isn't even good for a laugh (which is what I think they are shooting for). That said, I have to admit that musically EXHUMED's brand of extreme death grind just keeps getting better and better. In fact on a musical scale "Gore Metal" is totally mind plowing. Their earlier work was good, but this blows it away. This is twice as blistering, twice as vicious and twice as brutal as anything they have ever recorded. This is due, in no small part, to the fact that they are incorporating more extreme hardcore elements than ever before. All of the low tuned death crunch is still intact but onto that they graft a blasting hardcore fury. Screamed vocals, brittle rhythms, and total mania. EXHUMED have always been tightly nit to the fringe elements of hardcore and this release will only strengthen that tie.
