Hellworms
Crowd Repellent (Alternative Tentacles)

By: Jeb Branin

Ralph Spight and Larry Boothroyd are back to wreak more aural devastation. This pair formed the nucleus of the immortal VICTIM'S FAMILY and later the brilliant but overlooked SATURN'S FLEA COLLAR. Their quirky musical interplay is always distinctive and we should count ourselves lucky to get yet another dose of it. Adding Joaquin Spengemann on drums, HELLWORMS is a return to basics... Direct, furious, go for the throat punk rock unleashed with that outta-left-field spin that only Spight and Boothroyd can manage. Very much in the vein of VICTIM'S FAMILY these lovely HELLWORMS are going to nest in your cranium and viciously inject their venom. Of course it must be mentioned that any Spight and Boothroyd pairing is going to produce lyrics that must be experienced to be believed. They read like short stories and have more depth and complexity than 99% of the bands you've ever heard. The music is catchy and hook laden but delivered at a blinding pace with rough hewn edges and plenty of snide humor. Check out "Rat Brains On Crack." Sheer poetry. How is it that a band made of geezers can sound younger, fresher, snottier, and more energetic than acts with members half their age? Hey, I guess talent really does matter in punk rock!
