Krabathor
Orthodox (Pavement Music)

By: Jeb Branin

I've heard a lot about this classic European death band but this is the first time that I have had the opportunity to indulge in their aural chaos personally. I've got to tell you this band knows how to do death metal right! This is fast, technical, crunchy, and grating. The lyrics are intelligent and the vocalist has a throaty and tortured sounding growl. I realize to call this brutal would be so cliche as to be meaningless but that doesn't change the fact it is. Actually in a lot of ways it is very appropriate to call this brutal, if no other reason KRABATHOR's sound harkens back several years to when the genre was at its height (and at arguably at its best) and "brutal" was an adjective that still had meaning. I hope that in this post black metal day and age the appeal of music in a vein this pure can still be appreciated for what it is... uncompromising, passionate, and vicious.
