fudgeGUN
Behind Closed Doors (Futowan Records)

By: Alex Steininger

From the motor city (Detroit) comes an industrial-strength rock band, fudgeGUN. The band is all about noise, being wild, and taking control of the stage once they're amped and ready to go. On their third release, the band often seems to fall into a modern rock trap, with the occasional sonic blast out of the trap.

"High Class" and "Lie Down" are both stale rock tracks that try to muster up an intense atmosphere, but often fall short. "Just One Of Many," though, shows the band at their peak, delivering powerful rock without missing a bit. The lead vocals of the female bass player helps both add to the music and set it apart from the other million rock bands out there today.

"Inside" shows the band at a weaker moment, as the music seems to be falling apart the harder and harder they try to make it tighter. It is definitely noise-rock, but the noise is the subject of loose notes that just seem to float around without any direction. "The Worst Part," on the other hand shows the band once again capable of filling the air with noise that will conquer your soul.

With a male and a female vocalist, the band seems to lose itself track to track. The male often digs himself deeper in the modern rock cliches than the female does, which usually amounts to the numbers he sings on being less than average. The female lead tracks though, with her punchy voice and angry screams, help establish them as an effective band. I'll give this album a C-.
