Neil Hamburger
Bartender, The Laugh's On Me [7" EP] (Planet Pimp Records)

By: Gary "Pig" Gold

The inimitable Mr. Hamburger rears his comic head yet again on this, possibly his second souvenir concert recording taped live at the Days Inn lounge in "scenic" Modesto, CA. Although he gets off to a somewhat rock-strewn start in an ill-advised attempt to endear with a tad too much hometown humor, Neil quickly, as always, clicks into stride with one wicked, lightning-witted rap on fruit, smoking, Rush Limbaugh and (still a sure-fire winner in California, it seems) the O.J. trial. By the end of Side Two, the assembled Modestites are eating out of his free hand, and probably continued screaming for more of it long after Neil had shed his Searsucker and made off in his Lincoln. The fine art of recorded comedy is a damn tricky one - just ask those Jerky Boyz! - but Neil's material easily lives up to repeated listens, as you'll no doubt be finding out for yourselves shortly after sending four or five bucks off to Planet Pimp Records [click on link above to access their web-page].
