Die Form
Histories (Metropolis Records)

By: DJ Dysdynia

The French sadist group, Die Form has been creating eerie, futurist sexual sound since 1978, and now in 1999 they have released a 2 CD set chronicling the span of 17 years. Die Form, a band devoted to the bondage lifestyle, not only create music of unquestionable talent and perversion, but also photography, live acts and videography. Philippe Fichot, the main master, with the assistance of several divine voices such as Katia B, Cecile K, and Veronique P, has managed to combine operatic female vocals, well orchestrated electronica, and sultry lyrics into a complete experience. Histories has been complied through a massive discography of work spanning over 17 years of the group. The first CD consists of the older material taken from albums no longer available like, Rose Au Coeur Violet, Tears for Eros, Heart of a Monster, Some May Experience a Shock, and Die Puppe. Most of these cuts are rare and most are likely only to be found on this album. The second CD holds the newer material off of Die Form's more current work, Suspiria De Profundis, Visionary Garden, L'ame Electronique, and Duality. As the music evolves over years the sick operatic sexuality is inescapable, and the deep dark sensual tones are revealing and sometimes disturbing. The use of operatic vocals adds a dignity and flow to keyboards, violins, and stern sampling that is mechanically moving and often relentless. The choice of tracks varies from disturbing bits of musically indistinguishable samples to hard, danceable beats graced with unearthly sonnets. In all, Histories is a great selection of music done by a group that is unparalleled in their unique sound and untouchable in their pursuit of pleasure through pain.
