The Razor Skyline
Fade and Sustain (Cop International Records)

By: DJ Dysdynia

Fade and Sustain is the second release for The Razor Skyline. The group hit the gothic dance scene with "Queen of Heaven" off of their debut album Journal of Trauma. Now they are returning with the same feel and same intentions. As before, Karen Kardell's voice can range from pristine to powerful and the melodies remain medium in tempo. The Razor Skyline blends upbeat electronic sounds with esoteric lyrics and new wave gothic flare. Fade and Sustain begins on a strong dance note, with "Oblivious," and then transcends to slower more flowing pieces such as "Strangeness" and especially "Circle the Stars." In the legacy of "Queen of Heaven," there is "Hex" which is just as powerful but has the additional element of seduction. "It's All about Me" comes off just as it's title suggests, hard, "in your face" and pompous. Fade and Sustain covers a variation of styles and sounds, each song creating unique moods. The Razor Skyline is perfect for listeners who enjoy gothic vocals but are bored of the droning and yearn for the pulse of electronic beats.
