Triumph 2000
Phazed & Confused (Derailed Records)

By: Alex Steininger

A descendant of the Spacemen 3 family, Triumph 2000 is Mr. Richard Formby, who writes and produces all of the music, teamed up with Howard Storey on vocals. The outcome is a futurist sounding record that blends in well with the current trend of electronica/rave music, but with more of a bite.

"Baris" is a sonic British rock song gone electronica. The vocals put the rock in the music, while the electronica allows you to dance to the heavy beat of the music. "Happy Ever After" bounces along with a strong pop feel, but the underlined electronica feel helps push it beyond that category and into many more genres. The British feel is alive and well, as the vocals twist and turn the UK heritage into the music, while the rave/party theme burns in the forefront. Of course, "TFS #4" and "Neumatic" help further the rave feeling with deep, impacting grooves that are hit and miss, and, for the most part, almost always hit the bulls-eye dead on.

Whether you're attracted to the pop charm, the British feel, or the strong dance grooves, unlike much of today's electronica, Triumph 2000 are eclectic and able to cross genres easily. I'll give this album an A-.
