Valse Triste
Turha Ruokia Ruumiita (Solardisk)

By: Jeb Branin

16 years after forming and 10 years after they started recording VALSE TRISTE have finally released a full length album... and it was definitely worth the wait. This is the kind of full bore, heavy handed music that has been the trademark of Finish hardcore bands forever (thanks in large part to label mates Terveet K?det). VT are so raw and powerful on this disc that authorities are investigating whether there is any link between "Turha Ruokia Ruumiita" and various seismic disturbances around the world. VT vary the pace and delivery quite a bit from track to track. Sometimes sounding like the noisiest band on the planet, sometimes the heaviest and sometimes the fastest. Riffs range from chugga-chugga to metal to pure blender. Wasky's vocals are classic h/c shouts and roars and are one of my favorite aspects of the album. Almost all of the lyrics are in Finnish, which is great. I love to see bands that don't feel like they have to sing in English all the time if it isn't their native tongue. I like the distinction it brings to the sound.
