Crimson Glory
Astronomica (Spitfire Records)

By: Jeb Branin

CRIMSON GLORY have been churning out the high octane prog metal for more years than most and the seasoning clearly shows on the latest disc "Astronomica". C.C. are one of the select prog bands that isn't at all afraid to let their metal roots shine through in their song writing and delivery. They play hard, fast and tough and yet don't let that detract one bit from the complexity and melody of their music. In many ways they still cling to the power metal ethic that reigned back in the days (over a decade ago) when they were a young band. An ethic that said no matter what kind of metal you played, it still needed to have cranked guitars, screamed vocals and pounding drums enough to drive the music right down the throat of an audience. An ethic championed by former peers of C.C. like FIFTH ANGEL, Q5 and PRETTY MAIDS. Yep, that is definitely the main impression that this CD leaves. That it is a honest to goodness Heavy Metal album and that your throat is the target as much as your ears.
