 The latest offering by Iggy is a dark and introspective foray into the mind and emotions of one of rock n' roll's most enigmatic icons. Musically this is delicate and passionate and lyrically it is haunting and often cold. Iggy has a perspective on the human spirit and psyche that isn't quite insightful but is certainly deeply probing. His frame of reference is so fascinating that I have found myself literally absorbed by the lyrics on this CD. As I hear and read Iggy's words I feel all sorts of powerful emotions swirling around my heart and head. The evocative nature of his writing is at its simplest challenging and at its most complex cathartic. Musically the album is very restrained. Primarily acoustic and occasionally even minimalistic, the melodies and tones utilized are gentle currents of emotion, usually laced with pain, that carry the lyrics smoothly into the listeners mind. The music is so unassuming that it is almost devious because it circumvents the cynical defenses of the listener. This is especially true for fans of heavy music who generally assume that for music to be substantive it has to be delivered like a punch not a kiss. Only a handful of tunes stray from this theme and they do so only slightly. The most notable deviations are "Corruption" which rocks pretty hard and "I Felt The Luxury Of Her" which is a solid jazz tune with frightening lyrics. This CD is only for people who like to think and like to feel. If you are an idiot or are disconnected stay away.
