Tiger Army
Tiger Army (Hellcat Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Tim Armstrong's latest singing to his label, Hellcat Records, is the punk-a-billy band Tiger Army. They've got the rockabilly chops and the grooves, including the stand-up bass, but it's all punk from there, including drive and power. The music has more in common with slam dancing than any other dance form, but hey, if you're quick and daring enough to try, go ahead and dance to this wickedly vicious, ten-times-fast brand of punk-a-billy.

On their Hellcat debut, the band shines throughout the thirteen tracks on this album. "Nocturnal," "Devil Girl," and "Outlaw Heart" are all shining examples of what this band can do. They can be wild, fun, and still kick your ass with punk rock maneuvers while making your feet itching to dance along to the rockabilly dance portions of this album. Though, they vocals didn't always go over well with me. They seem a bit too whiny at times, taking away from the music and the edge the band works so hard at. At any rate, though, this is a solid album from start to finish.

If you're looking for something you can dance to when you're in the mood (and have the desire to keep up with the beat), and something you can jump around and break things too, this is your album. It's got both corners covered and them some. I'll give it a C+.
