VARIOUS ARTISTS: Darken My Fire
A Tribute To the Doors (Cleopatra Records)

By: DJ Dysdynia

From the 'cover song' company, Cleopatra Records, comes another gothic industrial tribute. The target this time is the late sixties band The Doors. Darken My Fire is filled with Gothic Industrial talents using modern technology to mimic the late Jim Morrision's work. All of the popular songs were touched upon.

The Mission UK starts out with "Love Me Two Times" that is musically almost identical to the original, the biggest difference is some keyboard synthsounds and the tempo is picked up. Next is a group called Eating Crows doing "L.A. Woman," with a medium dancebeat, some record scratching, and slightly distorted vocals. Also included is Alien Sex Fiend doing "Five to One," The Newlydeads rocking "Hello, I Love You," The Electric Hellfire doing "Light My Fire," Spahn Ranch revamping "Strange Days" and Rhea's Obsession doing a soothing "End of the Night". Ones that must be elaborated on are Controlled Bleeding, doing an eerily identical version of "When the Music's Over" and Eerie Von doing "The Spy", which sounds exactly like one would think from the ex - Sahaim punker. Another that can't be forgotten is Porl King as Rosetta Stone doing "The End."
