Black Kali Ma
You Ride The Pony (I'll Be The Bunny) (Alternative Tentacles)

By: Jeb Branin

BLACK KALI MA is a band that favors the down home and nitty gritty. Their rock 'n roll is a testament to the far reaching influences of front porch southern blues and southern boogie. Although taking a very distinctive approach and applying contemporary stylings they nonetheless infuse their music with tendrils of flavor that reach decades into the past. With the renowned vocal perfection of Gary Floyd providing the seasoning, the music is meat and potatoes rock that bleeds the blues and honors the iconography of rural American music while lyrically taking the idiocy and empty souled violence of that very culture to task. "You Ride The Pony (I'll Be The Bunny)" is the first absolute masterpiece of the new century and anyone who considers themself a fan of "real" rock music must add this to their collection.
