Shaver
Electric Shaver (New West)

By: Geoff Melton

Back in the '70's Billy Joe Shaver was considered one of the country outlaws (he wrote or co-wrote 10 of 11 cuts on Waylon Jennings' classic Honky Tok Heros), then in the '90's he hit the next phase of his career teaming up with his guitar-playing son Eddy to create the country rock Shaver. On their latest disc Electric Shaver, this father-son team is back with a vengeance, following last year's acoustic, country gospel album Victory. Throughout the course of twelve cuts Billy Joe's classic lyrics and sturdy vocals, coupled with Eddy's tasty guitar licks and a solid rhythm section merge to create an infectious stew of blues, rock and country with touches of Tex-Mex and Gospel. Electric Shaver leaves no doubt as to why Billy Joe Shaver is considered a legend by those in the industry.
