Nasum
Human 2.0 (Relapse Records)

By: Jeb Branin

Following up the lordly "Inhale/Exhale" album certainly couldn't have been an easy chore for NASUM. After all, what can you do to improve on perfection? I don't know the answer to that question but apparently NASUM do! "Human 2.0" is a monster of a CD. NASUM aren't trying to reinvent grindcore in any way, they are simply trying to play with complete precision and utter ferocity. Their music is pure violence and mayhem and yet at the root of their sound is a deceptive melody. Deceptive in the fact that it is always there and always driving the music but is never obvious and never undermines the grind. In fact, that melodic base gives the album a complexity that is the primary added ingredient between this CD and its predecessor. If you are an extreme music fan and you don't buy this it may be an indicator you are on your way down the slippery slope towards becoming an *NSYNC fan...
