Vendetta Red
White Knuckled Substance (Loveless Records)

By: Alex Steininger

A buzz-band of sorts in Seattle, Vendetta Red's blend of spiked punk, punchy hardcore, and tearing emo give them an edge. They play best with the punk kids, however their penchant for blazing bursts of emotion and yearning to make you break down and cry give them an emo tint that is hard to pass up. Unlike most punk bands, they don't just play fast for the hell of it. And unlike emo bands, they know when enough is enough and when it is time to just shut up and rock. With these two usually annoying traits out of the way, Vendetta Red makes headway. At times feeling generic and easy to write off, they come through with shining moments that point at a band on the verge of THE record that will make you remember them forever. If you can hold on for a bit, stick with Vendetta Red. If first impressions are everything, this CD won't make it past track three. I'll give it a B+.
