Soul Hooligan
Music Like Dirt (Maverick Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Electronic-pop with a hip-hop flavor, the freshness of Soul Hooligan is evident from the opening acoustic guitar and melodic pop of "Algebra" that quickly slips into a beat heavy rap, delivering a melodic hip-hop groove that will have fans of pop and hip-hop taking a second look.

Soul Hooligan's don't give up, going straight up from there with "Addicted", a bright, warm pop song that fans of electronic pop would fall all over themselves to hear. Then "Turn Your Head Around" hits with its danced-up rave-hop, before giving you more bouncy, radio-ready pop that is quirky enough to satisfy indie hearts as well.

Not hip-hop by far, this album may best fit in the pop category, however the street smarts and groove-laced songs offer up so much crossover potential, this is an album hip-hop fans shouldn't ignore or pass up on, just because it is ripe with pop. The same goes for fans of pop and electronica; because it has some hip-hop in it, this album is something that shouldn't be missed. I'll give it an A.
