Many Miles Away - A Tribute to the Police (Solarmanite Records)

By: Ashley Driggs

Perhaps the most intriguing tribute to the Police, Many Miles Away showcases eleven indie bands doing their best to pay homage to one of the finest bands in the history of rock music. They selected some of the band's best-loved songs including "King of Pain" and "Wrapped Around Your Finger," but the performances prove to be extremely unfortunate. Decembers in January's version of "Message in a Bottle" is more like Ethel Merman covering Metallica? Hideous! One point of optimism would have to be Blinder's version of "Does Everyone Stare." With that voice, though, you could never go wrong. Overall, Many Miles is the furthest thing from anything a Police fan would ever want to hear.
