Duke Robillard / America / Ian McLagan / Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings / Walter Trout
By: Randy Harward

The latest title in the German Ohne Filter/Inakustik live concert series are some of the best. Former Roomful of Blues guitarist Duke Robillard is at his best, tossing off tasty lick after tasty lick with his crack backup band. English Austin transplant Ian McLagan...you'll remember him from the Small Faces (that's Rod Stewart and Ron Wood's old band, the one that gave us "Maggie May")...pulls off oldies and classic with the Bump Band; America (well, the two-thirds that resisted the call of Christianity...where's the appeal in that? You either get laid for playing "Sister Golden Hair" or you barf up pious bile for no booty at all. Easy choice for most of us. Not for Dan Peek, apparently) serves up the hits like good little boys, and erstwhile Stones bassist Bill Wyman and his band, the Rhythm Kings, cook up mostly covers. Walter Trout's set of whitey blues rock is great...if you're a fan. With him, you likes it or you don't. Respective grades are as follows: Duke...A, America...A, McLagan...B, Wyman...B, Trout...B+.
