Beau Brummels Live! (Dig) By: Gary "Pig" Gold
Herein's one raw, patchouli-soaked, gloriously monophonic, ALMOST-in-tune boardtape from the Shire Road Pub in Fair Oaks, CA, circa mid-Ford administration. In fact, as it turns out, these are the only ("authorized") recordings extant from the legendary band's first ill-fated reunion -- until, that is, the BayPop and Cavestomp festivals had anything to say about the matter. But please note: "Live!" features the ENTIRE, ORIGINAL B. Brummels, for the very last time, in all of their reconstituted glory -- sounding sorta like the Lovin Spoonful possessed with the spirit of Jerry Garcia. Nevertheless, it's the even-by-then "oldies" which easily win the day: especially the glorious one-two "Don't Talk To Strangers"/"Laugh Laugh" punch halfway through the proceedings.
