The Constantines
The Constantines (Three Gut)

By: Cam Lindsay

It's almost too easy to see the kids ignoring that manufactured pop spilling through the radio and MTV, and running to one of their friend's basements to see The Constantines play. Alas, it hasn't happened to the majority yet, but Guelph, Ontario's The Constantines will be the ones repsonsible when it does occur. There's a lot of spirit and determination in their debut album, a record that bleeds its way through the stereo. These four young men speak the truth in their words, like the way The Clash did way back when, and how Fugazi still does after all of these years. Their searing guitars cut through your ears like a razor blade: sharp, quick and really fast. The hooks are memorable, but not in an ordinary, candy-coated way. When they yell, "Can I get a witness?" on "Young Offenders", that question will remain in your head for days to come, trust me.
