Toasters
Enemy of the System (Asian Man Records)

By: Alyson Clair

With the decline in popularity of ska in the past few years it is refreshing to get a really great new ska album. The Toasters, who have been together as long as I have been alive do not disappoint their fans with their latest release "Enemy of the System". This album is their first release since the closing of Moon Ska Records in 2001, which was a sad day for many of their fans. But unlike the fate of their label, the Toasters are still alive and kicking. They deliver their trademark sounds in 12 new songs, staying true to their sound. In track 3 "Dog Eat Dog" they make good reference to what has happened to the modern day ska scene, and state "we're not going out that way". "Sweet Home Town Jamaica" plays off of the tune of "Sweet Home Alabama" but has the lyrics and beat of only a Toasters song. There isn't a song to be disliked on the album and it is definitely on my recommended list for any Toasters or ska fan. I rate it an A+ and wouldn't mind if it got stuck in my CD player.
