The Mendoza Line
Lost In Revelry (Cooking Vinyl)

By: Cam Lindsay

Former Kindercore sweethearts, The Mendoza Line have jumped ship to embrace their roots in the good ol' Americana sound. Now with Cooking Vinyl in Europe and Misra in North America, the band has hit the nail on the head with their fourth full-length. Lost In Revelry is a majestic, intense look into a band filled with mood swings. It is funny how they seem to disguise themselves as Whiskeytown ("A Damn Good Disguise"), Neko Case ("Somethin' Dark") and The Replacements ("Under Radar"). That isn't to say that The Mendoza Line lacks an identity. Together, singers Peter Hoffman, Timothy Bracy and Shannon Mary McArdle all share strong personalities, yet blend perfectly in duets. It's a real treat having three vocalists that all sound so good. Plain and simple. And while they seem to be attracting attention for their tinge of alt.country, the band equally show an interest in playing some really catchy, noisy pop music. "In Your Hands" and "Mistakes Were Made" are some great fast pop tunes that are quite reminiscent of their labelmates, Apples In Stereo. Lost In Revelry is a real gem of a find.
