Gotta Get Thru This (Island Records)

 Born in New Zealand and growing up in Southeast London, Daniel Bedingfield's bedroom recorded single, "Gotta Get through This" helped land him a deal with indie Relentless Records. Soon he found his song at the top of the U.K. charts, eventually inking a deal with Polydor U.K. at the tender age of 21. Merely two years later, Bedingfield's debut full-length, Gotta Get Thru This, has been released. A collection of chart-topping pop, hip-hop, and electronica beats, Bedingfield puts originality back in the pop star sound, twisting and turning it around with his infusion of the electronica and hip-hop influences that have crafted him. Though the record plays more like a solid, glossy pop record, its incorporation of the above mentioned sounds helps keep it from being dull, as Bedingfield's songwriting abilities seep into your head (and heart) and grow on you. I'll give it a B-.
