Dawn of a New Age (self-released)

By: Jeb Branin

Hailing from the Czech Republic, "Dawn of a New Age" is the latest from these long standing mincecore masters. It features 26 tracks of grinding mayhem but it may not be what you expect. All the years and all the experience has paid off for MT in that their sound has definitely evolved beyond their noisecore roots. In fact, I'm not even comfortable describing this as mince. They are so tight, and have worked in so much subtle melody, that it is far closer to what you might call "melodic grind" (an oxymoron, I know) or even just oldschool-flavored crust. They also demonstrate a significant amount of diversity on here, with some songs being pure brutality and others being almost sing-a-longs. This is really quite stellar. My copy is in a Xeroxed sleeve and a CDR, so I don't know if this is a demo or has a regular release or not. Of course, my copy came with over $40 cash stuffed in it, somehow, I don't think that is part of the normal packaging. So if you are in MT and reading this, email Jeff and Athena at Short, Fast + Loud zine and tell them what the money was for! If it was a bribe for me, well tell Jeff and Athena to send it back to me!
