Grandaddy
Sumday (V2 Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Modesto, California combo Grandaddy's fourth full-length, Sumday, finds the indie-rock outfit delivering more blissfully beautiful, soaring melodies and gorgeous sounds. Supplemented by space-rock elements and fleshed out by warming keyboard tones, front man Jason Lytle's late-night, sitting under the stars, breezy singing style, and poignant song craft, cradles you like a baby and serenades you to sleep, its relaxing, calming delivery quite tranquil.

From piano ballads to guitar-driven rock, Grandaddy's Sumday is another notch in the belt for this stunning collective that seems to constantly outdo themselves. Sumday continues, in Grandaddy tradition, to deliver a creative, majestic record that will withstand the test of time. It will undoubtedly land them in the history books (as if their other records wouldn't already) between one of the most influential underground rock acts of the 90's and 00's, as well as one of the forerunners of the indie-rock sound. I'll give it an A.
