Party of One
Caught The Blast (FatCat)

By: Cam Lindsay

The Party of One in question may be the brainchild of one Eric Fifteen, but Caught The Blast is actually the product of a proper trio. Capitalizing on a shoestring, indie budget, the album glorifies lo-fi recording the way someone like Michael Jackson would relish in spending millions on one track. Recorded on 8-track, Caught The Blast isn't your typical indie rock record either. Using some grim and pessimistic subject matter, Party of One balance the powerful words with an unconventional dose of funk. Some tracks, like former single "Shotgun Funeral", are straight ahead punk tunes, but "Midnight Gypsy" and "Six Million Anonymous Deceased" use more of an ESG/A Certain Ratio-style disco punk with some very deep grooves. They even try their hand at amateur hip-hop on "Baby Doll", which is surprisingly better than you'd think. With a lot to offer in their colorful deck of cards, Party of One know how to work a modest budget and come out with something truly valuable and inspired. A-
