Sigur Ros
Untitled 1 (Fat Cat)

By: Cam Lindsay

Releasing singles from an album containing songs without any titles is always confusing. Sigur Ros, who never seem to do anything the conventional way, have finally lifted the first single from their third album, ( ), six months after its release. Technically without a name, the track has been labelled "Untitled 1" by most people with common sense, since it is the first song on the album.

The lead track isn't anything fans haven't heard before. Elegant, strange and very simple, "Untitled 1" is a glorious way to open an album, but not really my first choice for the album's single (which would be the track featured in the end of Vanilla Sky). The real flavour here is in the three extra tracks. Again, titled "Untitled 2" and then adding an "a", "b" and "c" to each one, these tracks are a new interpretation of the A-side split into three parts. The beauty of all of this is that there isn't even the vaguest similarity to the original, and instead, three new pieces of exclusive music are presented. Each one is slightly more avant-garde and challenging than the initial one, but Sigur Ros' method of expressing their artistic side is always untouchable.

Nicely packaged in its 3" CD, 5" DVD and CD doublepack or 10" vinyl format, "Untitled 1" is a must for all who find this band to be extraordinary. A-
