Panthers
Let's Get Serious (Dim Mak)

By: Cam Lindsay

Okay, let's get serious here, Panthers (no 'The') are as raw as rock can get without sounding like shit. Let's Get Serious is the follow-up to last year's phenomenal Are You Down?, an album that blew everyone away with a fierce attitude that made all of those new garage bands sound like amateurs. Avoiding the cliched tribute to MC5 and The Stooges, Panthers embrace every form of hard driving, sweaty rock, without conforming to any style or grouping. Produced by Steve Revitte (who's worked with all the usual cool suspects like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Rapture and Liars), this five-song, emotionally charged hellraiser restrains itself from the agenda the band presented on the album and instead, opts for gonzo rock while keeping the political bite in tact. Putting emphasis on the incredibly loud guitars, a song such as "Don't Be A Dick", revels in the sheer noise trembling from the speakers. Enough with all of the Datsuns and Hives hoo-ha, here's the real band for the people.
