The inexhaustible Luke Vibert has recorded for many a record label (Rephlex, Ninja Tune, Mo'Wax, Astralwerks) under different aliases (Plug, Wagon Christ), yet it's quite fitting for him to finally be releasing a record on the almighty Warp Records. YosepH is the record you would want him to put out on Warp, too. Streaking between the blurred lines of acid techno and disco, it's a rampant work of enthusiastic color, retro funk and obscure yet chunky dance floor fillers. His fanatical use of the 303 is interesting to say the least, abusing it even more than any of Fatboy Slim's early records. As a result of this, the most excellent, hypnotizing single, "I Love Acid" uses minimalism and goofy bleeps to charm off pants while its cousin "Acidisco", ventures more into the unknown with darker, Egyptian-flavored vibe. It's only in "Snapdance" that he moves into a field of nonsense, but his penchant for such a thing makes it forgivable. On YosepH, Vibert creates a playground for ridiculousness, something he's always done well, but this is extraordinary work that is not to be missed.
