Kim Wilson
Lookin' For Trouble (MC Records)

By: Mark A. Lawrence the IV

Kim Wilson's album Lookin' For Trouble reminds me of one of those rebuilt 50's hotrod roadsters with all their classic lines captured in the product of all new pieces. This CD has the classic sound of some of the 50's and 60's great recording of masters like Sonny Boy Williams II, Muddy Waters, and Howlin' Wolf, in their richness and texture without sounding technically outdated. The awesome harmonica play Wilson provides on "Love Attack" and "F Fat" clearly demonstrates why he is considered one of the best harp player currently on the scene. The sound on this album carries with it a warm flavor of vinyl, which gives these songs a comforting, feel to them; like listening to your dad's records that gave you the love of music in the first place. This is certainly the case with "Hurt On Me" which carries the sound created by a bigger band with the presence of a horns section clearly represented. While with "Tortured" Wilson presents a jumping blues with a jazz twist. The richness of this album is felt in every single one of its tracks, making it a great addition to any CD collection and is sure to find its way into your regular listening rotation. Rating: B+
