Deadweight
Stroking the Moon (Alternative Tentacles)

By: Jeb Branin

This has been out awhile and I'm just getting around to reviewing it! Why? Because I was just barely was able to free it from the clutches of my two teenage sons. Both are classical cellists/bassists with a taste for heavy rock and they spirited this CD away shortly after it arrived. You see, DEEADWEIGHT is a heavy rockin' band whose sound is driven by a cello and violin. No, this isn't some gimmicky band with an interesting, but ultimately forgettable, sound. This is double-barreled, heavy hitting, crack-your-skull-and-split-your-lip alternative rock that is musically and lyrically fascinating. It's groove is instantly infectious and distinctive. I daresay that most who listen to it won't even realize they are hearing anything other than guitars. This stands on its own regardless of the uniqueness of its creation. If there were any justice in this world this band would be selling millions and 99% of the big name bands playing so called "alternative rock" would be flipping McBurgers.
