Snapcase
Bright Flashes (Victory Records)

By: Jeb Branin

"Bright Flashes" is a for-the-fans conglomeration of cover tunes and leftovers from the "End Transmission" sessions. Throbbing post-hardcore, monotonous vocals and more of the new-found maturity of SNAPCASE are all in abundance. Although I have nothing but respect for the intelligent musings of the band, I still find the "new and improved" sound of SNAPCASE far less vital and energetic than their early material. I just can't think of a situation where I would go to my record shelves looking for a SNAPCASE album and pull this off to listen to instead of say 1995's "Lookinglasself" or 1997's "Progressions Through Unlearning."
