Unjust
Glow (Kool Arrow)

By: Mike SOS

Unjust is a Bay Area quintet whose latest 14-track offering GLOW mixes the best of the heavy music spectrum both globally and locally, yet doesn't really sound like anything currently on the map. Yes, there's an underlying powerhouse metal groove that pervades the rhythm of tracks such as "Meantime" and "Throwin' Pennies", but there's a slew of tones and styles layered on top, from the ethereal vocals that are reminiscent of Jeff Buckley and Brandon Boyd to the moody melodic guitarwork that ranges from the heavy hypnotic kick of "Notes From a Sunday Morning" to the melancholic maelstrom of "Tired", sounding like a cross between Taproot and Tool. Some bands create its own unique sound; Unjust does one better and like Dredg, The Mars Volta, and Faith No More, this outfit creates its own atmosphere, where the music is dynamically dramatic and the boundaries are limitless. If you enjoy hard music that thinks as much as it rocks, GLOW will be a welcomed addition to your collection.
