A 18
Dear Furious (Victory Records)

By: Mike SOS

A 18 is a Southern California based hardcore outfit whose latest release sounds the way hardcore used to, before the nu hardcore bands found their mother's eyeliner. Without any pretense, A 18 steamroll you with 12 tracks of old school beatdown riffs, churning rhythms, and the kind of vocals that scare small children and sound as if the singer has been gargling broken glass. Tracks such as the escape anthem "Jailhouse Rob" slams through your speakers with ferocious intent, while the title track's chunky chugging will keep the action in the pit hot and heavy. Thanks to these hardcore purists, who liberally borrowing from the late '80s and early '90s hardcore sounds of such luminaries as Cro Mags, Murphy's Law, and Sick of it All, Dear Furious delivers a much needed boot in the ass to the ever-changing scene that in recent times has lost its way.
