Tartharia
Abstract Nation (Crash Music Inc.)

By: Jeb Branin

TARTHARIA plays a two-man black metal that tries to straddle the line between the callous depravity of "real" black metal and the atmospheric experimentation of dark metal. The music is basically watered down black metal with a lot of the rough edges and harshness eliminated. Which is too bad because when the band does allow themselves to pull out all the stops, they come together much better (the tracks "Warlife" and "Stand in the Wind" being a prime examples). Vocally there are hints and teases of melodic enhancements but for the most part it is a pure death metal sewer growl. In the end there is plenty that black metal fans are going to connect to here but the overall sense is one of slight disconnection.
