American Hi-Fi
K-Town Sessions EP (Island Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Modern rockers American Hi-Fi offer up a taste of their forthcoming full-length with the K-Town Sessions EP, a record that features three songs from their next full-length, Hearts on Parade, as well as two b-sides.

"Hell Yeah", "The Geeks Get The Girls", and "We Can't Be Friends" will appear on the full-length. Hook-laden, and made-for-radio, they're guitar-driven rock songs that build up to a chorus, reel you in, and get you singing along.

Fun, bouncy, and energetic, "The Geeks Get The Girls" seems the hit out of the three, but the other two offer up plenty of modern rock fare as well, with danceable beats, crunchy guitars, and plenty of hooks - and easy-to-remember choruses.

"Dead on the Inside" offers up a lot more pop, with a blazing rock chorus, while "We're Gonna Find A Way" starts off soft and then burns right into the rock, offering up the most rock out of the five tracks.

Strong, well written, and hooky as they come, American Hi-Fi may not have repeated the success of their debut single, "Flavor of the Week", at least in commercial terms. But if the K-Town Sessions are any indication, the band has a lot more momentum, and commercial appeal, left in them to score a few more hits. I'll give it a B-.
