Capitalist Casualties
1996-1999: Years in Ruin (Six Weeks Records)

By: Jeb Branin

I miss the days when CAPITALIST CASUALTIES was cranking out an EP, a split or even an album every few months. It was a feverish release pace to be sure, but one that was reflective of the music on offer. The hyper-frantic power violence of C.C. was, is, and will continue to be, a benchmark by which other thrash bands are measured and, to be honest, very few bands measure up. For proof I give you exhibit A: The 1996-1999: Years in Ruin retrospective CD. This 30 track alpha album compiles the tunes from three EPs (the 5" picture disc, the 6", and their last Slap A Ham 7"), three split EPs (MONSTER X, UNHOLGY GRAVE, MACABRE), and two comps. These were, without a doubt, some of the best efforts by C.C. Literally it's the best of the best. During the years of 1996-1999 C.C. had stripped their music down to its purest hardcore frame. Their songwriting was at its peak. Their delivery was completely unbridled and over-the-top. The fact these 30 tunes have been given new life on CD is something that should have every fan of extreme hardcore drooling. Really you have two choices; buy this or admit your ineptitude at sentience.
