The Hell Yeahs
The Hell Yeahs (Jump The Gun Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Channeling the energy and youthfulness of a younger Iggy Pop, and playing with the conviction (and carelessness) of the early CBGB's scene, The Hell Yeahs sound every bit New York - and they're from Portland, Oregon! Gritty, sleazy, and wild, this is what rock 'n' roll should be - unbridled, punchy, and tough. And even after they've hit the nail on the head of rock 'n' roll, they hit you again with their melodic outreach and ability to write a hook underneath screaming guitars and pounding rhythms. Yes, this is what rock 'n' roll should be. If all rock bands had this must passion and conviction, nobody would ever claim rock to be dead. Hell yes to The Hell Yeahs. I'll give it a B+.
