Save Ferris
Introducing...Save Ferris (Epic Records)

With the recent success of ska, and female fronted bands like No Doubt and Gwen Stefani, some people may be confused and start comparing No Doubt with Save Ferris. But any comparisons between these two bands is nothing short of foolish. Both bands have their own style, and Save Ferris is now on Epic Records to prove that their blend of ska/pop/swing is something different than No Doubts straight ahead pop music. So look out kids, because now is the time of the Save Ferris invasion!The CD starts off with Save Ferris' radio single, "The World Is New." It starts off with bright horns that are quick, and will just as quickly start warming your body. The guitar is bouncy, while the bass is tight, and the drums are ferocious when they need to be and calm when the time calls for it. From the get go these guys will make your brain want to just move those little feet on your body and jump around like there's no tomorrow. "Superspy" starts out with some horns that you might find in a modern swing song. And then the vocals come in, and you'll feel their swing influence. The song has traces of ska, but is a swing-pop song for the most part. Man, these guys can do the upbeat ska songs that make you want to dive into a dancing frenzy, as well as the swing tunes that make you want to grab someone and swing them around while you have a grand 'ol time to the music. "Spam" is a tribute to that canned goody, "the government substitute for meat." Poppy and bouncy with horns that put a twinkle in your eye, you'll be dancing and laughing hysterically throughout the whole song. "Under 21" ends out the CD. A tale for a larger portion of Save Ferris' fans. A song that tells the story of being rejected from a show, because your not old enough. To top things off, you see your friends (your own age) in the crowd. "How'd they sneak in, and how come I can't?" seems to be the question on Monique's (the lead singer) mind. With fans having the ability to relate to this song, it's a very strong track on the album. Her strong vocals add great depth to the track, where as the tight horn section adds even more power to the song. Throw in the very bouncy and danceable guitar riffs, with the drums keeping the beat, and the bass pulling everything together and you have a great finish to a great EP. Save Ferris has their first full length coming out in September on Epic Records. This EP is a great prelude to their fourth coming album. Keep your eyes open for Save Ferris, because they're going to give No Doubt a run for their money! I give this EP an A.
