Once Hush
Say It Anyway (Greenhouse Productions)

By: Alex Steininger

Once Hush is a soft, pop, mellow rock band very similar to The Dave Matthew's Band. Once Hush has good lyrics behind them, too bad the music doesn't do them justice. I found the music repetitive at times, and at other times very uninteresting. They keep it soft and mellow at times, but at other times they rock. But still, the music just didn't have the kick it needed. The vocals were decent sometimes, while other times they were down right annoying. The keyboard added nice flourishes of emotion, emphasizing a lot of points, and capturing a lot of good song writing moments, but the rest of the band wasn't able to play with the keyboard for the ultimate experience. Sometimes the music was clever ("Heading South") while other times it had heart, but no spirit ("Relax Rewind.") This is the type of band that has a lot of heart and talent, they just need to mold it to their advantage. A few years more of experience, and a few more releases, and they could be something great.

Any fan of The Dave Matthews Band will find Once Hush very enjoyable. Very similar in sound, but a lot less experience, time will mold these guys into something. But for now, they are lost and confused. I'll give this CD a C.
