The Stillness of Over (Brain Floss Records)

Lucid Nation is a heavy metal/riot grrl punk/angry rock trio. Switching between male and female lead vocals, these guys seemed confused. Trying to listen to their CD all the way through is like listening to a collision of noise, and then turning around and being hit by a totally different flow of noise. They seem inexperienced and out of control. One minute they're playing something that seems half-way decent, and then they quickly shift into a new style, but between the old style and the new style, the shift is basically a loud ruckus that shouldn't have been put on the album. The production quality is horrible. I understand a lot of bands are short on money and can't spend the expanded budgets that major label acts have on their albums, but production and sloppiness like this is just flat out horrible. I must mention though, a lot of the tracks were recorded live. Which makes me wonder how these guys are live? Do they get drunk and then hit the stage, or do they hit the stage and purposely plan to spew out noise pollution? And what's with their obsession with playing notes, stopping, yelling something, and then playing again. Done a few times this can be a real treat. Over done like these guys do it just shows more inexperience. I have a few recommendations for these guys. Practice a lot more, with people listening and commenting on what your doing right and wrong. Second, save your money and get an experienced producer. And third, keep on writing until you find a style that works. With some more money and practice, these guys might be something someday. But right now they're nothing short of horrible. I'll give this album an F. Don't even bother with it.
