Local Bands:
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

By: Kate Thompson

Have you ever sat down and watched a local band and wondered why the hell they were playing at all? Or did you ever think this band is gonna make it? How about this one: WHY THE HELL ARE THEY PLAYING IN YOUR TOWN? Well I think these thoughts every time I go to a local show. I have seen some really great bands that are now in the process of making it big. I have seen some great bands that are playing right now in the same places with tons of people there, but they haven't been discovered yet. And I have seen some really great bands break up. Which sucks because some of them never even recorded. Then I have seen these bad bands that are trying to make it to the top but they suck because they need a new singer, or the bass player sucks, or they all just suck. I have seen these bands that two people go to the show and they still play a full set...they actually think they are good.

Maybe all this is just in my hometown, but I'm sure somewhere out there, there are many good bands that just haven't made it yet. Flint Michigan, which is where I am from has a good local scene, maybe not the best, but its pretty good. We have lots of Ska, Hardcore, and a few emo bands. Lot's of diversity in music. I should plug some bands from Flint, so maybe some of you guys will come up to FlintTown and listen to them! Okay I'm done plugging shows...

I guess I'm just done...is there any other good local scenes out there? Please tell me...
