Blake Morgan Anger's Candy (N2K Records) By: Geoff Melton
This debut from classical piano prodigy Blake Morgan, son of two well-know writers, is far from the Bach, Beethoven and Mozart he spent his formative years listening to. Anger's Candy is a wonderful collection of well-crafted, pop-tinged rock full of strong melodies, often reminiscent of Crowded House, but with a somewhat retro groove (especially noticeable on "Why Don't You See", featuring guest vocals from Lenny Kravitz). Co-produced by Morgan and Terry Manning (Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Al Green, Lenny Kravitz) and recorded on analog tape with vintage amps and mics (they also used a piece of the console used by the Beatles at Abbey Road), Anger's Candy has a warmer, human element that's missing from most of today's products of the digital era, and is well worth hunting down.
