23 year old Finley Quaye is cute as a button(yours truly finds him INCREDIBLY sexy). Tricky calls him Uncle. He hangs out with the Twelve Tribes(Manchester base). And he's a masterful musician -- without the help of his pre-millennial nephew -- in his debut album, MAVERICK A STRIKE.Quaye mixes and matches elements of rockabilly, reggae, electronica, BritPop, and sampling(listen to "Even After All", the fourth track on the album, and you'll here a distorted sample of Marvin Gaye's "Mercy MercyMe") to create a unique sound unmatched by any modern rock or electronica artist today -- although it's not fair to pigeonhole Quaye into either of these categories, since the epitomes of said genres seem to consist of such watered-down bullshit acts as Matchbox 20/Marcy Playground and the Crystal Method/Sneaker Pimps, respectively. To put it simply, Finley Quaye is a real breath of fresh air. Of course, I can't get enough of the single "Sunday Shining", a track co-written with Bob Marley. When the video landed onto 120 MINUTES(which is the only credible MTV show, save for DARIA, left), it provided a piece of eye and ear candy that I haven't had since...well, since Soundgarden's "Outshine". And by the way -- the lyric is "I'm a hero/Like Robert THE Nero" --->Robert the Black --golden_deliciouspete_krebs_cavity_search10p05
