Chris Butler
The Devil Glitch (Future Fossil Music)

By: GARY PIG GOLD

Y'know, one of my favorite songs right now happens to be nearly 69 minutes long and contains over 500 choruses. No, I'm not talking about some new Smithsonian folk find, or even "Thick As A Brick: The Director's Cut". It's the latest (Grammy-nominated, Guinness Book Of World Records-accredited) treasure from Hoboken wunderkid Chris Butler that I find lodged tightly inside my head these days. A community effort, as it were, amongst Chris and musical pals the world over to construct an entire CD-length song consisting of basically one musical hook interpreted and reinterpreted over and over itself, the results are surprisingly un-"Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands" (my faves lately being the choruses submitted and performed by The Whatnots and Harvey Gold not to mention Chris' mom). Meanwhile, for the faint of ear out there, a "radio-friendly" five-minute condensed version is handily included which deftly boils the whole panorama down into one dense, concise Breetlesque chunk. Gee, I gotta admit, sometimes you can fix something by just playing a great song like this!
