Disappointment Incorporated Spoken Through The Profits (Time Bomb Recordings) By: Alex Steininger
I think the name says it all, Disappointment Incorporated. Mixing punk, hard rock, and some Pearl Jam influences, this four-song live EP comes off as a nineteen minute waste of time. This five-piece from Southern California definitely defies all stereotypes of it's 'scene,' too bad it's not in a favorable way.The only salvageable number on this disc is "Forget," which steps out from the Pearl Jam rock that is so prevalent on this album to form it's own pop-punk identity. Fast, energetic, and full of hooks, if all the songs were like this it would be quite a tasty treat. The guitar is quirky, grabbing at your ears and pulling you forward, while the rhythm section is so cohesive you can't help but keep your feet pounding along with them. The vocals help carry the melody during the soft parts, while keeping the momentum up during the faster parts. Too bad the remaining two tracks are nothing like this. Both are 'slow-to-the-point' numbers that leave you craving action, and never making any attempt to provide you some either. With only four tracks, it already has some strikes against it. But with three of the four tracks mild at best, this disc is not even worth another listen (unless you keep repeating track two, "Forget"). I'll give it a D-.
